Tipton County Constables Requalify for the Upcoming Year

Constables from all around West Tennessee requalified on September 21st for the upcoming year. Constables Fisher, Mayo, Miller, Smith, and Stroud  requalified on their duty weapons during the annual event.  

Constable Smith had a 100% shot placement rate with a 100% shot accuracy rating. He is an NRA Rifle, Pistol, and Shotgun instructor, Chief Range Safety Officer, and a qualified Law Enforcement Handgun Instructor/Evaluator.

Basic Vehicle Contraband Concealment - May 2024

Constables Darren Smith and Chris Fisher are attending a two-day training course today and tomorrow on Contraband Concealment. This world-class training allows your Constables to rapidly recognize and detect traps, compartments, and secret hiding places used to conceal and transport illicit commodities, including small arms, explosives, illicitly gained and laundered money, narcotics, and chemicals used to manufacture narcotics. Your Tennessee Constables are committed to the fight against drugs in Tipton County. Constables do not receive tax funding to operate or attend training. The costs for this training class were paid directly by the Constable.

Basic Narcotics Officer Training - April 2024

Constable Smith is in basic narcotics officer training this week. The 40-hour class consists of presentations from the Drug Enforcement Administration - DEA and HIDTA on Drug Threat, Operations Planning, Forensic Chemistry, Source Cultivation, Surveillance, Interview/Interrogation/Investigations, and Tactical Training. Anti-drug equips officers with the necessary knowledge and skills to identify and handle various controlled substances safely and effectively. This training also helps officers understand the complex behaviors associated with drug use and trafficking, enabling them to interact more competently and compassionately with individuals affected by drug-related issues.

Sea of Blue Memorial - Josephy McKinney - April 21, 2024

Constables Fisher and Smith participated in the Sea of Blue for Memphis Police Officer, Rusty Mckinney.  Thank you for your service and Godspeed Officer McKinney.  #seaofblue #josephmckinney

Tipton County Constables Requalify for the Upcoming Year

Constables from all around West Tennessee requalified on the 9th of Sept for the upcoming year.  Constables Fisher, Mayo, Miller, and Smith requalified on their duty weapons during the annual event.  

Constable Smith had a 100% shot placement rate with 97.5% shot accuracy rating. He is an NRA Rifle, Pistol, and Shotgun instructor, Chief Range Safety Officer, and is a qualified Law Enforcement Handgun Instructor/Evaluator.

Tipton County Constables Gather for In-Service Training - June 2023

Tipton County Constables gathered for a 2 hour session on Report Writing and Jail Intake Procedures on June 1st, 2023.  Constables are required to accomplish 40 hours of In-service training annually.  Constables often accomplish more than 40 hours in a year, all of which is unpaid.  This annual proficiency training is not only essential for improvement, it is required by Tennessee Law.  Constable Osborn (District 7) led the training for Constables Mayo, Miller, Smith, and Stroud

Constable Smith achieved 166.75 hrs in 2020, 226.25 hrs in 2021, 507.5 hrs in 2022 , and for 2023, 1200 hrs.

Man killed, dozens injured after tornado rips through Tipton County - March, 2023

“We’ve been overwhelmed and we can’t thank our community and outside of our community, we can’t thank them enough,” said Tipton County Sheriff Shannon Beasley.  Despite the overwhelming help, law enforcement are now on the lookout for potential looters.  “We’ve had THP as well as the sheriff’s office as well that are helping us and also our local constables,” said Covington Police Chief Donna Turner.

Constable Smith was on location at Indian Creek where the devastation turned fatal for one Tipton County man.  Also known to be working in the area were Constables Fisher, Mayo, and Osborn.

Sea of Blue Memorial - January 6, 2023

Constables Smith, Fisher, Mayo, and Osborn along with officers from all local law enforcement agencies, Sheriff's deputies, and THP officers participated in the  “Sea of Blue” Memorial for Trooper Calvin Jenks and all fallen law enforcement officers that have been killed in the line of duty.  The “Sea of Blue” consists of law enforcement officers, Fire and EMS from various agencies traveling in procession on a route with emergency lights illuminated. This light display is a visible sign of honor and in the memory of a fallen comrade within the law enforcement community. “This memorial serves as a reminder to every law enforcement officer of the dangers that our profession holds and the ultimate sacrifice that Trooper Jenks made and the sacrifices made every day by law enforcement officers throughout our Nation."

Local Law Enforcement Conducts Active Shooter Drills - November, 2022

Constable Smith along with officers from Atoka, Covington, Munford and Sheriff's deputies participated in a two-day active shooter training program at Atoka Police Department/Munford High School.  The emphasis was on eliminating the threat and treating the injured. 

In active shooter situations where ongoing deadly force is reasonably likely to be employed by a suspect and delay in taking law enforcement action could result in injury or death, immediate action by officers at the scene is necessary when such actions are deemed reasonable to prevent further injuries or loss of life.

Constable Smith's New Patrol Car - October, 2022

Just after the August, 2022 election, Constable Smith researches and purchases a 2022 Dodge Durango Pursuit patrol vehicle to serve the citizens of his district and Tipton County.  Constables must purchase vehicles at their own expense, including all maintenance and fuel.  These expenses are completely funded by the constable and taxpayers receive the benefit!
