Firearms Disposal Program - HOW TO PROPERLY DISPOSE UNWANTED FIREARMS

THE TIPTON COUNTY CONSTABLES SERVE OUR COMMUNITIES
BY PROVIDING COMMUNITY MEMBERS SAFE DISPOSAL OPTIONS.

Steps

  • Call 901-297-1513.

  • Request a Constable to confiscate the firearm(s) from a residence.

  • The reporting party shall leave the firearm(s) inside of the residence where it is currently located at the time of the call. (In a safe, bedroom, garage, etc.)

  • When the Constable arrives on scene notify him of the location of the firearm(s) and if it is rendered safe.

  • If you are turning in ammunition it cannot be attached to the handgun in any manner.

  • If possible, have any registration documentation for the firearm(s) ready to provide to the Constable.

  • The officer will check to ensure the firearm(s) is rendered safe and give the individual a property receipt with the case number.

  • We can also accept unwanted ammunition; however, military ordinance requires special handling and will be evaluated for safe disposal by law enforcement personnel on a case by case basis. If the ammunition you want to get rid of can not be moved safely, special handling will be required.
