LOOK TWICE and SAVE A LIFE

Constable Smith is on the scene of a motorcycle crash on Thursday afternoon. The bright sunny day and dry pavement provided prime riding weather for two brothers.

A small passenger car cut off the motorcyclist, and as a result, the motorcyclist left the paved surface and fell from the motorbike, creating an injury on the left knee and possible neck injuries.

This could have been prevented:

  •  Double check your blind spots

  •  Limit distractions

  •  Give riders plenty of room

  •  #LookTwice

Motorcyclists have the same rights as other vehicle drivers. They also face unique safety challenges, such as being smaller and less visible. PLEASE look for motorcycles where vehicles do not appear, like before making a left-hand turn at an intersection. Also, motorcyclists may have to downshift and weave to avoid bumps and road hazards.

The number of people killed on motorcycles in Tennessee during 2023 was 204, with a single fatality in Tipton County last year. So far this year, we've had 2 serious injury motorcycle crashes. Read more: tntrafficsafety.org/motorcycles
